German parliamentary delegation due today
A parliamentary delegation from Germany will arrive in Bangladesh today to discuss climate change and Rohingya refugee crisis with government officials and other stakeholders.
The delegation led by German Bundestag Vice President Claudia Roth will stay for six days, diplomatic sources said.
Claudia Roth has been in the Bundestag since 2002 and she will be accompanied by two MPs -- Matthias Zimmer and Frithjof Schmidt.
During their visit, they will learn about the consequences of climate change in Bangladesh and discuss possible remedies.
Meanwhile, another German delegation of Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the States of South Asia will arrive in Dhaka on Monday for a five-day visit.
Tobias Pflüger, chairman of the group, will lead the three-member delegation. Two other lawmakers of German federal parliament are Gabriele Katzmarek and Bettina Stark-Watzinger.
They will visit Cox's Bazar and meet government officials and representatives of the Rohingya in order to get a comprehensive picture of the challenges in dealing with the refugee crisis, according to the German Embassy in Dhaka.
