Gazipur factory gutted by fire
A jute and synthetic bag manufacturing factory was gutted by a fire in Gazipur yesterday.
Privately-owned Sarah Composite Mills Ltd caught fire around 6:00am while workers were changing shifts, said factory officials.
However, no casualty was reported, they said.
The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained immediately, said fire service.
The fire started in a room and later spread to other rooms in the tin-shed factory, located at Keoa Bazar in Sreepur municipality area.
Different raw materials and products, stored in a warehouse, and machinery were damaged in the fire, said Ziaul Haque Khan, senior factory manager.
The factory shed was completely burned down, he said.
But the loss caused by the fire could not be estimated immediately, said the factory official.
Eight fire fighting units from Joydevpur, Mawna and Bhaluka in Mymensingh brought the blaze under control around 11:00am after five-hour-long frantic efforts, said Aktaruzzaman Liton, deputy assistant director of Gazipur fire service.
