Gas supply in Ctg back to normal
The supply of gas in the port city has been restored after the gas distribution company started receiving liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its terminal in Moheshkhali early yesterday.
Since November 3, residents of the city were facing a severe gas crisis after an emergency valve at the offshore LNG terminal stopped functioning.
Due to the scarcity, Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL), the distributor of gas in Chattogram, had to stop supplying gas to two power stations and a fertiliser factory, said Anupam Dutta, manager (load monitoring) of KGDCL.
In Chattogram, KGDCL supplies around 380 million cubic feet gas a day and it receives around 330 million cubic feet of gas from the LNG terminal alone each day.
After the valve at the LNG terminal was fixed on Wednesday night by engineers and divers, KGDCL was able to resume supply of gas to the city in full swing, Anupam added.
