Four killed in road crashes
Four people were killed in separate road crashes yesterday, report our correspondents.
In Faridpur, a man was killed and two others were injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway at Kaillar Mor area under Nagarkanda upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as biker Md Rabiul Islam (25).
Quoting locals, Md Ataur Rahman, OC of Bhanga Highway Police Station said, "The accident took place around 12pm when an unidentified vehicle hit a motorbike at Kaillar Mor area. This injured three motorbike passengers including Rabiul seriously. Locals rushed them to Nagarkanda Upazila Health Complex, where an on-duty doctor declared Rabiul dead."
In Jhenaidah, two vegetable traders were killed in a road crash at Garaganj bazaar area under Shailakupa upazila yesterday noon.
The deceased are: Hashmot Ali (45) and Mina Hossain (35).
SI Rafikul Islam of Shailakupa police station said, the duo were caught in the accident as they were on their way to Jhenidah with vegetables on a human haulier. When they reached the fuel station area at Garaganj bazaar, their vehicle lost control and hit a roadside tree, killing both on the spot.
On information, police reached the spot, recovered the bodies, and sent them to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
In Manikganj, an Imam was killed after his bicycle was hit by a truck at Utholy bus stand area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway under Shivalaya upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mawlana Delwar Hossain Dulal (63), Imam of local Nihanda mosque.
Officer-in-Charge of Barangail Highway Police Basudev Sinha said Imam Delwar Hossain died on the spot from the collision. He was going to the mosque at dawn to lead the morning prayer, the official added.
