Former DC indicted for misappropriating Tk 19cr
A special court in Chattogram on Tuesday framed charges against 36 persons including a former deputy commissioner (DC) of Cox's Bazar in connection with a graft case filed in 2014.
Acting Judge Md Ismail Hossain passed the order and framed the charges against former DC Ruhul Amin and 35 others, said Salauddin Lavlu, lawyer for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the case statement, more than Tk 19 crore was misappropriated through bank cheques from the budget allocated to acquire 1,414 acres of land for Matarbari Coal Power Plant in Maheshkhali upazila of Chattogram.
The incident took place between September, 2012 and February 2015, when Ruhul Amin was the DC of Cox's Bazar.
Following the incident, AKM Kaisarul Islam Chowdhury, a local businessman, filed a case accusing DC Ruhul and others, on November 2014.
After investigation, ACC submitted a charge-sheet on April 2017.
