Five JU students suspended over mugging allegation
The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday suspended five students for their alleged involvement in mugging and beating up a driver.
The authorities also formed a four-member probe committee and asked it to submit a report within seven days, said JU acting proctor ASM Firoz Ul Hasan.
The five suspended are: Sanjoy Ghosh of drama and dramatics, Rayhan Patwary of geological sciences, Al Razi of government and politics, Shah Mustak Saikat of computer science and Mokarram Shiblu of philosophy departments. All of them are Bangladesh Chhatra League activists.
Earlier on Saturday, three of the suspended students were caught by university employees during a mugging, while two others managed to flee.
The incident happened behind the university's botanical garden. The driver was beaten up, and is now undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital.
Contacted, JU BCL general secretary SM Abu Sufian Chanchal said, “We will not tolerate any kind of crime. We are looking into the matter.”
