Five ‘JMB men’ held in M’singh
Rapid Action Battalion arrested five alleged members of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Muktagachha upazila of Mymensingh early yesterday.
Some jihadi books, leaflets, videos and three mobile phones were also seized from the arrestees -- identified as Monwar Hossain Majon (24), Sanwar Hossain Sajon (24), Shafiqul Islam (43), Mustafa (30) and Abdus Samad (40), Rab sources said.
Md Tafiqul Alam, media officer of Rab-14 and assistant superintendent of police, said on a tip-off, a Rab team, led by senior assistant superintendent of police Md Hafizul Islam Babu, raided Nalikhali area around 3:40am and arrested them.
Some five others of the group managed to escape, said the Rab official.
Of the arrestees, Mustafa is already an accused in a case filed under Anti-Terrorism Act with a Narayanganj police station, said Tafiqul.
They were handed over to Muktagachha Police Station and a case was lodged under the act, Rab sources said.
In primary interrogation, they confessed that they are active members of the banned militant outfit, they added.
Biplob Kumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of the police station, said the arrestees were produced before a Mymensingh court that sent them to jail.
