Five friends killed in Gopalganj accident
Eight people died in separate road accidents across the country yesterday.
In Gopalganj, at least five people were killed in an accident on Dhaka-Barishal highway at Mukshudpur upazila in the afternoon, reports our Faridpur correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Farid Mia (34), Shahin Alom (42), Khorshed Alom Khokon (33), Md Masud (30), and Abdul Mannan (45). They were all friends.
Shoriful Islam, a friend of the victims, said, "Ten friends were returning from Kuakata on two private cars. Farid was driving the car that perished in the accident."
Ataur Rahman, OC of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said, "The accident took place when the Dhaka-bound private car lost control and hit a roadside tree. Immediately afterwards, the car caught on fire."
"This killed three passengers on the spot while the other two died as they were being taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital," he added.
In another accident in Jashore, two people were killed and four were injured after a truck ran over an auto-rickshaw in Sadar upazila in the morning, reports our Benapole correspondent.
The deceased are Taniya Islam (32), an employee of Brac Bank, and Hasan Ali (48).
The accident occurred around 11am and left both of them dead on the spot. The injured were rescued and taken to Jashore General Hospital by locals, police said.
Police have seized the truck but the driver and helper managed to flee the scene. A case was filed with Jashore Kotwali Police Station, said OC Moniruzzaman.
Meanwhile in Madaripur, rickshaw-van puller Sohidul Morol (55) was killed after a truck hit his vehicle at Kuluapdi area under Sadar upazila around 12pm yesterday, reports our Faridpur correspondent.
Critically injured by the collision, Sohidul was rushed to Madaripur General Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead, said Sohidul Islam, SI of Sadar Police Station.
