First time in nine months
For the first time in the last nine months, no new dengue patient was admitted to any hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours till yesterday morning, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
A total of 29 dengue patients are currently admitted to different hospitals across the country, according to the daily report of DGHS. Among them, 26 are in Dhaka.
Since the beginning of January, a total of 152 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals till 8am yesterday morning. Among them, 123 have been already discharged from the hospitals and no one succumbed to the illness, the report also said.
“The report is based on DGHS’ own surveillance system,” said Dr Ayesha Aktar, assistant director of DGHS Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
According to government estimates, the total number of people infected with dengue was 1,01,354 in the last nine months. However, private estimates say the number of infected persons was more than three lakh.
The number of deaths from the disease was 166, according to the government estimates.
Meanwhile, a total of 3,84,711 people have been hospitalised with cold-related illness across the country from November 1 last year to 8am yesterday, the report read.
