Fire guts valuables of eight houses

Fire gutted valuables of eight houses in Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram early yesterday, fire service and civil defence sources said.

The flames originated from an electric short circuit of a house and soon spread to adjacent houses around 12:30am, said Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Chattogram.

On information, a team of firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 1:30am.

Valuables worth Tk 3 lakh were gutted in the fire, Jasim Uddin added.
