Fire broke out at an oil depot in Chattogram’s Sitakundu this afternoon, what was doused within two hours.

The fire began at the depot located in Abdullah Ghat, Fouzdarhat, beside Dhaka-Chattogram highway around 2:00pm.

Abdul Mannan, deputy director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence, told The Daily Star 12 units doused the flames around 3:40pm.

Oil collected from scrap vessels at shipbreaking yards at Fouzdarhat were stored in the depot, said Mannan.

Oil from discarded ships were sold illegally at the depot, said Purno Chondro Mutsuddi, deputy assistant director of Chattogram fire service.

A motor vehicle used for carrying oil was completely damaged in fire, but no one was hurt.
