Filipiniana Section opens at nat'l public library
Filipiniana Section, a special corner comprising Filipiniana collection of books and visual materials, has been launched at the Sufia Kamal National Public Library in the capital.
The department of public libraries and the Philippine embassy in Bangladesh jointly established the section -- which includes collection of books on Philippine's history and culture, digital content from Philippine production companies, as well as maps and other visual promotional materials.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid inaugurated the section yesterday.
Speaking there, Khalid said through this initiative readers will now have the opportunity to have ideas about literary, cultural and social aspects of the Philippines.
Philippines Ambassador in Dhaka Vicente Vivencio T Bandillo said the reference books will help Bangladeshis learn about Filipino languages and history books will help them understand struggles and victories of the Philippines.
The corner was established four months after a cultural exchange programme was signed between National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Philippines and cultural affairs ministry of Bangladesh.
