Fazilatun Nasa Bappy no more
Former Awami League MP from reserved seat and Supreme Court lawyer Fazilatun Nasa Bappy passed away yesterday at the age of 49.
Bappy had been suffering from pneumonia, breathing problems and other respiratory diseases and was on life support since December 28 at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU).
Doctors pronounced her dead at around 8:30am, said sources at BSMMU.
She left behind her husband, relatives, friends and a host of well-wishers.
Bappy was an assistant attorney general for around two years. She was also a prosecutor at the International Crimes Tribunal for around 10 months.
Fazilatun Nasa was an AL MP from reserved seat for women in 9th and 10th parliament.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker of parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in separate messages expressed their deep shock at Bappy’s demise.
Bappy proposed a bill on confiscating the assets of the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and convicted war criminals in the national parliament in 2016, which was passed unanimously.
Three namaz-e-janaza were held for Bappy at Japan Garden City, South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, and Supreme Court premises in the capital.
She was laid to rest at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard.
