Fakhrul elected APDU vice chair

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been elected the vice chairman of Asia-Pacific Democrat Union (APDU), an association of member parties close to the International Democratic Union.

BNP was also given full membership of the body on Thursday, says a press release.

A conference, held in Colombo, elected Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe as chairman, Peter Goodfellow (New Zealand) as its deputy president and Mirza Fakhrul, Tenzin Khangsar (Canada) and Hassan Latheef (Maldives) as vice chairmen.

Fakhrul informed that they had applied for membership a year ago, and were affiliated members until now. BNP is the only Bangladeshi party to have full membership of APDU, he said.
