Excavation of 'Laurer Garh' begins

The Department of Archaeology started excavation works at “Laurer Garh” in Sunamganj yesterday.

After a thorough research of the site at Halhalia village of Tahirpur upazila on October 10, 11 and 12, the department considered it an important historical site.

According to veteran historian Achyut Charan Choudhury's book, “Srihatter Itibritto”, Laurer Garh fort and Rajbari was part of “Kamrup Kingdom”, which used to be ruled by King Bhagadatta.
