Ensure full security of minorities
People from minority communities are not able to exercise their franchise properly due to violence against them, said National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque yesterday.
Ahead of the upcoming national election, Reazul was addressing a views-exchange meeting with law enforcers, civil society members and representatives from different humanitarian groups at Khulna Circuit House.
They [minorities] feel intimidated as they have to face pre- and post-polls violence, he said, adding that no government was able to ensure their full security during elections.
The local administrations completely failed to tackle such violence in 2001 and 2014, he alleged.
Attacks on temples and houses of religious minorities have become a common phenomenon in recent years, he said.
The NHRC chairman said he wrote a letter to Election Commission with several recommendations to ensure protection of minority groups.
