Eid Rush: Special Dhaka-Khulna train today
Bangladesh Railway will run a special train service for Eid travellers on the Dhaka-Khulna route today, albeit for just one day.
According to Khulna Railway Station Manager Manik Chandra Sarker, Moitree Express -- that usually runs between Dhaka and Kolkata (India) -- will leave the capital at 12:20am and will likely reach Khulna around 8:35am. The train will depart Khulna the same day without any passenger.
The station manager told The Daily Star that the special train will run only for that day.
We added three extra compartments to Chittra Express on Khulna-Dhaka route to facilitate Eid rush. Each compartment contains 150 seats, he said. An extra compartment has also been added to Kapotaskh Express on Khulna-Rajshahi route.
Ticket counters at the station are packed with passengers, as sale of advance return tickets started from Wednesday.
While visiting the station, this correspondent found many passengers waiting for hours to secure tickets. Railway authority and law enforcers were monitoring the situation.
Some passengers alleged that there is no fan or air-conditioner in front of the ticket counter. So passengers had to endure the long wait in scorching heat.
Advocate Babul Hawlader, secretary of Khulna Nagorik Samaj, said, “More special trains should be introduced to tackle the Eid rush, and railway authority must improve its services to ease the sufferings of holidaymakers.”
