E-procurement vital to reduce corruption
Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said the e- procurement system is very much important in reducing corruption in the government's procurement issues and to purchase accurate items at a reasonable price.
People's participation will be increased and transparency will be ensured if the e-procurement system is properly implemented in all sectors including the judiciary, he said.
The minister made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting organised on the occasion of inaugurating a three-week training programme for the judicial officers (lower court judges) on e-procurement in the capital.
The Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) organised the meeting at its office auditorium where 33 judicial officers will receive the training.
The minister said there is a scope for corruption in the procurement issues through the analogue system.
The government's one of the main targets is to eliminate corruption and ensure transparency and accountability in all sectors, he said.
Anisul Huq said the government has introduced the e-procurement system in purchase activities in order to implement the "Digital Bangladesh" plan of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and therefore, competition has increased along with competence and transparency.
JATI director general Justice Khondkar Musa Khaled presided over the meeting where law secretary Md Golam Sarwar and its joint secretary Bikash Kumar Saha and JATI director Md Golam Kibria also spoke.
