DSCC launches 15-day mosquito eradication programme
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) yesterday announced a 15-day mosquito eradication programme through visiting homes with the aim of checking the current dengue outbreak.
“Representatives of our inspection, cleanliness and health teams will visit over 25,000 houses under 57 wards of the city from today to destroy larvae of Aedes mosquitoes,” DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said while announcing the programme yesterday.
During the programme, the DSCC representatives will visit 1,710 houses every day and also teach people how to kill Aedes mosquito larvae, he added.
After launching a mosquito eradication campaign in Kathalbagan area, the DSCC mayor also sought all-out cooperation from city dwellers and urged them for greater self-awareness to deal with the prevailing mosquito menace.
Underscoring the need for self-awareness, Khokon expressed optimism that they would be able to eradicate the mosquito menace through a collective effort.
Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) brought out a rally from Uttara Club to Rajuk Uttara Model School and College yesterday to generate awareness among people on how to prevent dengue and chikungunya.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam distributed leaflets among students as part of the awareness programme.
He also gave away DVDs containing informative content -- prepared by DNCC -- to the authorities concerned, to present to students.
Atiqul urged students to take steps to destroy mosquito breeding grounds at their homes, roofs, gardens, garages and other places.
“If people from all walks of life, including students, come forward to prevent dengue, we will be able to free Dhaka city from this problem,” he said.
