Dreams of a family shattered
Firoz’s family received his body with broken hearts on Saturday after the Dhaka University student lost his battle with dengue the night before.
His near and dear ones broke into tears as soon as the body arrived at Maheshpur Munsipara village in Thakurgaon in the afternoon.
Family sources said Firoz was the youngest of four siblings. His father Dabirul Islam is a famer. Firoz’s elder brother Fajlu could not continue education after HSC due to poverty. His two sisters followed suit and were married off early.
So, Firoz Kabir became his family’s last expectation to be a university graduate and subsequently support his family members in the future.
A student of finance and banking department, Firoz had been waiting for his honours final year’s results. According to his father, he wanted to a banker. But the dreams ended with his death.
Firoz’s brother Fajlu said, “I am yet to accept the demise of my brother. We expected a lot from him.”
One of the neighbours, Humayun, said, “He [Firoz] was quiet and gentle.” Every single villager liked him for his good manners, he said, adding that they are shocked over the death.
Firoz was laid to rest at his family graveyard in the village with hundreds of people attending the burial.
On July 18, Firoz was first admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with fever and diagnosed with dengue. Two days later, he got released as he felt better.
After staying two-three days at his Thakurgaon residence, his condition deteriorated. He was taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, from where he was transferred to DMCH again.
As his condition did not improve, he was shifted to Square Hospital where he died on Friday night.
