Doctor held on charge of raping minor

A doctor from the capital’s Dakkhin Khan was arrested by police yesterday, for allegedly raping a minor girl at his clinic on April 23.

The fourth grader of a madrasa in Uttarkhan was allegedly raped by the LMF doctor when the girl went to his clinic with his father.

The victim is now undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Uncle of the victim told this newspaper that the girl went to the clinic at Chalabon of Dhakkhin Khan with an eye problem. The doctor asked her father to bring a medicine immediately.

As her father looked in vain for the uncommon medicine for one and a half hours, the doctor raped her by sedating her through an injection, said the uncle.

The doctor even gave her father Tk 50 to purchase the medicine, but he failed to find it even after frantic efforts, he added.

The father found her daughter in a drowsy state at the clinic upon return, and took her home. The girl spoke about the incident to her grandmother on Saturday, he said.

Family members took her to a hospital in Tongi on that day, where doctors referred to her to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

DMCH police informed Dhakkahin Khan Police Station about the rape when her father filed a case as per suggestion of police on Saturday night, he said.

Police arrested the doctor and produced him before a court, which sent him to jail.

The doctor did not confess to the accusation in primary interrogation, said an official of Dakkhin Khan Police Station.
