DNCC’s drive from Sept 22 to free Dhaka streets
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will carry out drives to free the city streets and footpaths from illegal occupation from September 22, in a bid to ensure smooth movement of the pedestrians.
“We will not allow anyone to run business occupying streets and footpaths,” DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam came up with the warning at a meeting held at his Gulshan Nagar Bhaban office in Dhaka this afternoon.
Calling upon all people irrespective of party and opinion to remove their business establishments from the streets and footpaths, the DNCC mayor said, “Business, occupying streets and footpaths, will not be tolerated.”
Pointing finger at a section of people who carry out development works grabbing footpath with construction materials, he asked the concerned people to remove their construction materials before beginning the drive. “Otherwise, we will take legal action against them.”

Awami lawmakers Akbar Hossain Pathan (Actor Faruk), of Dhaka-17 parliamentary constituency, Ilias Uddin Mollah of Dhaka- 16 and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the DMP commissioner said police want to work for the welfare of the people and the DMP will extend its all-out cooperation to free the city streets and footpaths illegal occupation.
