DNCC demolishes over 400 structures in Mirpur
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has so far demolished over 400 structures, most of them shops, during an eviction drive in Dhaka's Mirpur area.
The DNCC has started the drive around 10:00am and continued till 5:00pm.
During the drive today, Md Sadaqat Khan Fakku, acting president of Mirpur-11 New Society Market, told The Daily Star that they will go to court against DNCC's move.
Akash Kabi Das, a shoe shop owner near Bihari camp, said that he still has not managed to find a place where he can store his products after his shop was demolished today.
He also alleged that the authorities did not take any steps for rehabilitation.
The city corporation authorities have been conducting drives against structures constructed illegally by occupying roads, footpaths or canals since Atiqul Islam took charge as mayor.
Mayor Atiqul yesterday said, DNCC will construct a two-kilometre long, 60-70 feet wide road from Mirpur 11 to Kalshi via Baunia. There will be a huge improvement in connectivity for locals after completion of the road, he added.
He also said they will continue their drive to recover all canals in DNCC areas as well as widen roads and construct footpaths.
