Dengue patients’ tally crosses 85,000
The number of dengue patients hospitalised across the country crossed the 85,000-mark yesterday.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 461 new patients were admitted to hospitals and clinics in 24 hours till 8am yesterday. Of them, 318 are outside Dhaka.
With them, a total of 85,288 patients have been admitted in the country this year.
Currently, 2,018 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals, of whom 1,157 are outside Dhaka.
The number of dengue patients have never exceeded 11,000 in the last 18 years since its first outbreak in 2000.
It was 10,148 last year, while it crossed 6,000 mark twice in the last 18 years: 6,232 in 2002 and 6,060 in 2016, according to a DGHS report. This year, DGHS confirmed 75 deaths so far after verifying 126 deaths. However, DGHS received 224 suspected dengue deaths so far.
Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation officials yesterday found Aedes mosquito larvae in 23 of the 10,517 houses.
DNCC mobile courts also found favourable places for Aedes breeding at 6,195 houses, said one of its official.
They destroyed the larvae and breeding sources, he said.
With the numbers, DNCC mobile courts have found Aedes larvae in 253 houses during their nine-day drive after visiting 91,086 houses and also found favorable mosquito-breeding spots in 54,120 houses or structures, he said.
