Dengue kills railway employee in Noakhali
A railway employee infected with dengue died at a hospital in Noakhali yesterday, said family.
Mosharaf Hossain Raju, 30, a caretaker at a Railway Rest House in Cumilla, was infected at his workplace, said his brother Delowar Hossain while talking to The Daily Star.
“My father took him to Noakhali and admitted him to a private hospital yesterday [Thursday] as he had been suffering from fever for the last couple of days. The next day, he was diagnosed with dengue,” he said.
Ram Narayan Dhar, senior sub-assistant engineer of Bangladesh Railway in Cumilla, said, “We called his father after we noticed that Raju was suffering from fever on Wednesday.”
Meanwhile, the number of dengue patients has increased in Cumilla.
Swapan Kumar Adhikari, director of Cumilla Medical College Hospital, said 65 patients were admitted to the hospital yesterday. The figure was 46 on Thursday, he added.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mujibur Rahman said there has been more than 100 dengue patients in the district since its outbreak in the capital. Detection kits are insufficient, hampering the treatment process, he added.
Dengue fever also spread to different upazilas. Five people were infected with the virus in Homna, said the civil surgeon. Two persons were diagnosed in Brahmanpara upazila, said Dr Kamrul Hasan Sohel of the upazila health complex.
Our Mymensingh correspondent reports, around 198 dengue patients are taking treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), said Dr Shamsuzzaman, assistant director of the hospital.
Meanwhile, the MMCH authorities have been continuing free tests round the clock since Tuesday.
“We had a stock of some 40 kits at the hospital, which are being used,” said the assistant director. “We are waiting for more supply from Dhaka,” he added.
Some 299 dengue patients have been treated at the hospital since July 21, said the official.
In Kishoreganj, around 65 dengue patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals, said Civil Surgeon Dr Md Habibur Rahman.
In the last two weeks, around 211 people were detected with dengue in the district, said the civil surgeon.
There is no crisis of detection kits as they collected around 340 in the last two days, he added.
