DB arrests 3 female Jamaat members
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) yesterday said their detectives have arrested three female operatives of Jamaat-e-Islami in the port city.
Jesmin AKhter, 29, wife of Belal Hossain; Shahanara Begum, 38, wife of Mohammad Idris; and Hamida Akhter, 30, wife of Rahman Howladar, were arrested early yesterday in Bandar area, police said.
AAM Humayun Kabir, additional deputy commissioner (ADC, west) of CMP's Detective Branch (DB), said they arrested the trio after conducting a raid at a tin-roofed house in Baitul Ridwanul Colony of Kolshi Dighirpar area under Bandar Police Station.
The arrestees are apparel workers by profession and used to live in the same room of the house, said the ADC.
Based on a tip-off, a team of DB raided the room where they also found documents and books propagating Jamaat's ideology, he said, adding that clandestine meetings of the organisation used to be held in that room.
The arrestees were handed over to Bandar Police Station and a case was filed with the police station under the Special Powers Act.
