CU BCL beat up 'Shibir' man
A Chittagong University (CU) student, suspected of being a Shibir activist, was beaten up yesterday by members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at the university.
A friend of the student, Fayezur Rahman of Accounting and Information Systems department from 2013-14 session, however said, “I don't know why he was attacked. He is not involved in politics of Shibir [Islami Chhatra Shibir].”
Nearly eight to 10 BCL activists, loyal to Mansur Ahmed, former vice president BCL at CU, attacked Fayezur while he was waiting with his friends for the shuttle train to the city at Zero Point on the campus, he added.
After police arrived at the scene, the BCL men handed Fayezur over to them, said Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, in-charge of CU police outpost.
Belal Mohammad Jahangir, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police Station, said they would take necessary action after Fayezur's identity is validated.
Claiming that Fayezur is a Shibir activist, BCL leader Mansur said, “We will definitely resist any Shibir if one is found on the campus.”
