Ctg girl shot by stray bullet during clash between two groups
A girl was shot and injured during a clash between two rival groups in Chattogram city’s Halishahar Eidgaon area yesterday afternoon.
With leg injuries, Sumaya Akter, 11, daughter of Abdul Khaleque from Eidgaon Baro Pukur Par area, was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said CMCH sources.
Cheman Ara Begum, mother of Sumaya, said her daughter was playing in front of the house. “Suddenly, I heard a gunshot and came out of home...”
“Locals said my daughter was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as she was injured by bullet,” she said, adding, “I don’t know who fired the gunshot.”
SM Obaidul Haque, officer-in-charge of Halishahar Police Station, said, “The followers of local cable service providers -- Jamal and Jony -- engaged in the clash over establishing supremacy in the area.”
Sumaya, a bystander, was shot in the leg while she was crossing a road at that time, he said.
“We are investigating the incident,” he said.
