Smart Jacket (BD) Limited, a Chattogram based manufacturer located at Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ), is making one lakh sets of surgical jackets for doctors to combat the coronavirus after getting orders from the Health Ministry.
The company, a concern of Smart Group of Industries, had ready items of 50,000 sets of surgical jackets in stock, which they delivered today afternoon.
"We regularly manufacture surgical jackets for an American buyer. The Health Ministry on Monday asked us to make one lakh sets and after receiving the order we delivered 50000 sets, which were already prepared earlier for export," Mujibur Rahman, director of the company, told The Daily Star today evening.
He said about 11,000 workers are working at the factory. It is possible to produce on average of 20,000 sets of such jackets per day.
He hoped that they would be able to deliver the remaining 50,000 sets of surgical jackets within Thursday, he added.
"We are not concerned about the profit for this consignment since it is an urgent need for the country in this crucial time," the director said, adding that the health ministry assured them of bearing the manufacturing cost.
