Court defers charge framing till Nov 13
A Dhaka court yesterday deferred the hearing on charge framing against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia till November 13 in the cases filed over undermining the national flag and observing “fake birthday” on August 15.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur set the date after Khaleda’s lawyer advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder submitted two petitions seeking adjournment of the hearing in the cases.
On August 30, 2016 Gazi Zahirul Islam, former joint general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists, filed a case against her for celebrating “fake birthday” on August 15.
Also on November 3 the same year, AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami League organisation, sued Khaleda for “undermining” the country's map and national flag.
On August 1, Khaleda secured bail in the cases from another Dhaka court.
