Court accepts charges against two house help
A Dhaka court yesterday accepted charges brought against two women over murder of former Eden Mohila College principal Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin in February.
After scrutinising case dockets and other documents, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saiduzzaman Sharif accepted the charges.
The accused are: Rita Akhtar alias Swapna, 35, and Ruma alias Reshma, 30. Both worked as domestic help at the ex-principal’s home.
On August 2, Sub-inspector Alamgir Hossain Mazumder of New Market Police Station, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka.
Taking cognisance of charges, the magistrate sent the case to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate for next course of action.
In the charge sheet, the IO said the accused planned and carried out the murder of Mahfuza, with intent to loot gold ornaments and money.
On February 10, police recovered Mahfuza’s body from her apartment.
After the murder, the family reported that the two maids went missing along with gold, valuables and money.
The next day, a case was filed against the duo with New Market Police Station in connection with the murder.
During investigation, the duo gave confessional statements before magistrates on different dates.
