‘A corruption-free, developed DSCC’

Promises mayor Taposh at his first board meeting

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh yesterday said he would not patronise any corruption, which exists in every nook and corner of the city corporation.

Addressing the first board meeting at Nagar Bhaban after taking charge, the mayor said he will root out corruptions from the city corporation during his five-year tenure.

Mentioning councillors as his main companions, the mayor said the city corporation's door is always open for them and he will keep them involved in different works of DSCC.

He sought cooperation from the councillors in solving issues such as mosquito control, waste management, waterlogging, road repairing works, freeing roads and footpaths from encroachment and traffic congestion.

Taposh said they have to make the foundation of building a developed Dhaka city and to achieve that they will have to work 24 hours a day.

He said they will be able to make the city corporation a trusted and proud organisation if all of them do their duties sincerely and cordially.

In the first board meeting, the mayor formed two committees -- finance and public administration -- and also asked the committee members to recommend necessary measures against those officials and employees found involved in corruption or neglecting duties.

Taposh also announced plans to create new income generating sectors to ensure civic facilities to city dwellers. But no additional tax will be imposed, he added.

The mayor said they will hold a board meeting once every month from now on.

In the beginning of the meeting, all observed a minute's silence, showing deep respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders and all martyrs including the mayor's parents.
