Commit to women's political empowerment
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad yesterday called upon all political parties to commit to political empowerment of women in the country.
Women's rights have been overlooked until now by all governments due to apathy of political parties, speakers said at a press conference at the Mahila Parishad's office in Dhaka's Segunbagicha.
In all election manifestoes released so far ahead of the 11th national election, political parties did not draw any action plan on women's empowerment, speakers added.
The organisation also urged political parties to ensure equal rights and social equity for women.
Ayesha Khanam, president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, said political parties should be held accountable to fulfill the promises in their manifestoes.
The programme was moderated by Ayesha Khanam, while Rekha Chowdhury, acting movement secretary, read out a written statement.
