College girl stabbed dead in Gazipur
A college girl was stabbed to death allegedly by her stalker in Gazipur city this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sharmin Akter Liza, 18, the daughter of Shafiqul Islam of Sadar upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting police.
Locals caught a 17-year-old boy from the scene and handed him over to police after giving him a good thrashing, said Emdad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Konabari Police Station.
The victim’s brother Sadim Ahmed Sujan said, the detainee used to stalk his sister, who was a student of Cambridge College, on her way to the college.
Liza was returning home after attending her year-final examination when the boy waylaid her near Konapara kitchen market area and stabbed her indiscriminately as she had refused his proposal of love, Sujan said.
She was rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital in critical condition and was later shifted to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Uttara where doctors declared her dead, he added.
There were stab marks beneath the victim’s throat and chest, OC Emdad said.
A sharp weapon was recovered from the spot and the detainee was being interrogated, the police official said.
The body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College morgue for autopsy, the OC also said, adding that legal action in this connection was underway.
