Child, woman die in Barguna road crash
A child and a woman were killed, and 10 injured after a bus fell into a roadside ditch in Sonarbangla Bazar area of Betagi upazila in Barguna around 11:30am yesterday.
Police and fire service with the help of locals recovered bodies of the deceased.
The two could not be identified immediately. The woman is aged around 22 and the child around two, said Md Kamruzzaman Mia, officer-in-charge of Betagi Police Station.
The bodies were sent to Barguna General Hospital’s morgue.
At least 10 passengers were injured and they were treated at Barguna General Hospital and Betagi Upazila Health Complex.
The bus driver and helper managed to flee, and police are trying to arrest them, the OC said.
Fire service alongside locals were trying to lift the bus from the ditch, he added.
Meanwhile, at least five people were killed and two injured in other accidents across the country in the last two days, our correspondents report.
In Brahmanbaria, two forest officials were killed after a truck hit their motorbike at Ghatura in Sadar upazila around 6am yesterday, said police, quoting locals.
The deceased are Dolon Sarkar, 36, and Rajib Chowdhury, 38. Both were office assistants of Brahmanbaria Forest Department office.
Dolon was killed on the spot and Rajib was critically injured after the accident. Locals took Rajib to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Dhaka for better treatment.
In Mymensingh, Rahmat Ali, 55, was killed after a truck hit the battery-run auto-rickshaw carrying him in Krishnachura Chattor area of Gafargaon upazila around 8am yesterday, said police, quoting locals.
Ali was critically injured after the accident and died while locals were taking him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), they added.
Police sent the body to MMCH morgue for autopsy. They seized the truck but its driver managed to flee. A case was lodged with Pagla Police Station.
In Dinajpur, Tango Roy, 50, was killed on the spot and two were injured after a bus hit them at Ranirbandar in Chirirbandar upazila around 8:30pm on Wednesday.
The injured are Moktarul Hosain, 22, and Reazul Islam, 40.
Police, quoting witnesses, said after the brake of BRTC bus failed, it hit three people one after another.
Locals took the injured to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police detained the bus, but its driver and helper fled after the vehicle stopped.
MAN DIES IN TRAIN ACCIDENT
A man was run over by a train at Jorarganj in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram early yesterday.
The deceased is Nazrul Islam, 31. On information from locals, police recovered Nazrul’s body, said police.
The body was handed over to his family, and railway police were informed to take necessary steps, they added.
