Child dies of dengue in Dhaka
An eight-year-old child has died of dengue fever, a mosquito-borne tropical viral disease, at a hospital in Dhaka.
Arian was admitted to Dhaka Shishu (Children's) Hospital with dengue fever yesterday and died around 3:30pm today, said Abdul Hakim, public relations officer of the hospital.
Till now, 12 children died of dengue in the hospital this year, he said.
A total of 109 children with dengue fever are undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.
According to Directorate General of Health Services data, a total of 59,592 patients admitted to different hospitals across the country till yesterday, of which 23,846 are outside Dhaka and 47 persons have been officially declared dead because of dengue.
1,446 newly infected with dengue
In the last 24 hours a total of 1,446 people have been infected with dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease, throughout the country, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The data has been collected from reports from 41 government, non-government and autonomous hospitals of the country in the last 24 hours, said health emergency operation centre and control room of the DGHS.
A total of 54,956 patients have been released from hospitals across the country, it said.
This year, a total of 47 persons died of dengue fever across the country and 61,038 persons were admitted to hospitals for treatment of the disease.
