Charge framing hearing deferred to July 18
A Dhaka court yesterday deferred the hearing on charge framing against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and seven others in the Barapukuria coalmine graft case to July 18, as the BNP chief was not produced before it due to illness.
Judge ASM Ruhul Imran of the Special Judge’s Court-2 passed the order after jail authorities informed the court that Khaleda is currently under treatment at BSMMU.
Six other accused, including BNP leaders Dr Khondaker Mosharraf Hossain and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury were present at the court while former BNP minister AKM Mosharraf Hossain remained absent due to illness.
In February 2008, Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against 16 people including Khaleda and 10 of her cabinet colleagues, for taking Tk 159 crore in kickbacks on the Barapukuria coalmine deal.
