Cabinet approves draft child daycare centre bill
The cabinet, in its weekly meeting at the secretariat chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, yesterday approved in principle the draft of the Child Daycare Centre Bill 2020, to support children of professional and working women.
The Women and Children Affairs Ministry placed the bill for the cabinet’s endorsement, said Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam after the meeting.
According to the proposed law, there would be four types of child daycare centres, he said -- run with subsidy by the government; run by a government agency, directorate, department, statutory agency or autonomous agency; run by individuals or organisations commercially; and non-profit ones run by any individual, organisation, non-government organisation, club, association, corporate or industrial sector. Maximum punishment for failure to maintain safety and security of children at daycare centres would be Tk 10 lakh fine, Anwarul said.
The cabinet also approved in principle draft of bills to establish two science and technology universities in Lakshmipur and Bogura.
