A mobile court in Chattogram during a drive yesterday sentenced a helper to four months of imprisonment on the charge of molesting four female passengers in a bus.
A mobile court of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) conducted a drive at Dampara and seized the bus, after a passenger of the bus made a post on BRTA’s Facebook page regarding the incident, said Executive Magistrate SM Manjurul Haque, who led the drive.
The helper, Amir Hossain, 35, hailing from Lakhkhipur, admitted his offence before the court.
The incident happened on Wednesday when a woman boarded the city bus from Sholoshohor gate-2 to go to Dewan Hat in the city. As no seat was vacant, she was standing.
When the bus was crossing GEC Intersection, the helper of the bus molested the woman, said Manjurul, adding that when she protested, the helper misbehaved.
The helper did the same with three other female passengers while they were boarding the bus in Dampara area, he said.
“A male passenger of the bus protested it and took the helper’s photo on his phone. He also noted the number of the bus and posted the information on BRTA’s Facebook page,” added Manjurul. The drive was conducted based on that post.
