BSD concerned over digital security bill
Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) led by Khalequzzaman yesterday protested the government's move to pass the proposed Digital Security Act.
Telecom and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Monday placed the proposed law before the parliament, which was then sent to the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry concerned for scrutinising it.
Expressing deep concerns over the proposed law, general secretary of BSD Khalequzzaman in a statement said ignoring protests of people -- including journalists -- the government is going to pass a repressive law incorporating sections like Official Secrects Act.
He demanded to stop the move of passing the law.
Khalequzzaman also said chances of its misuse will be increased as the proposed law is going to give power to the police to conduct raids and arrest a person just based on permission from the director general of Digital Security Agency, and without any arrest warrant.
“In reality, steps are being taken to turn this country into a police state through this law,” said Khalequzzaman.
