BNP’s Shariatpur candidate detained
BNP’s election candidate for Shariatpur-3 Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu has been detained over a previous seizure of Tk 8 crore before the election.
He was nabbed from Dhaka’s United Hospital this evening, said a text message sent from Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) headquarters.
Lt Col Sarwar-Bin-Quasem, commanding officer of Rab-1, told The Daily Star that Apu will continue to attend treatment under Rab custody.
On December 25, Rab detained three people in the capital's Motijheel and Gulshan for allegedly distributing money to influence the coming election and instigate violence.
They seized Tk 8 crore and several cheques of around Tk 10 crore from their possession.
Mia Nuruddin Apu is accused number four in the case filed over the haul, the Rab official added.
