A Mymensingh court yesterday sent a man to jail after he was arrested over alleged poisoning and killing of a woman and her four-month-old daughter on Thursday for dowry.

On Thursday, Nazma Akhter Moyna, 22, and her daughter Sadia Akhter were pronounced dead after they were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital with poisoning symptoms.
Nazma's father Nuhu Mia filed the case with the police station against her husband Saidul, her mother-in-law, and three other relatives of Saidul, including Abdul Quddus, for killing Nazma and Sadia.
Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of the police station, said Saidul, 25, had been demanding dowry from Nazma, whom he married about six years ago. Saidul lately had been pressurising her for Tk 18 lakh to buy a new pickup van.
The couple locked in an altercation on Thursday and at one stage Saidul fled the house after poisoning his wife and daughter, Mazharul said quoting the case statement.
