BCL selected senate reps without informing me: Nur
Ducsu vice-president Nurul Huq Nur yesterday alleged that Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) selected student representatives for the university senate without any formal meeting.
Talking to The Daily Star, Nur said BCL-backed Sammilita Shikkharthi Parishad, which won 23 out of 25 Ducsu posts, submitted a list of five persons to Vice-Chancellor Dr Akhtaruzzaman without notifying him.
They are: BCL president Rezwanul Huq Chowdhury Shovon, who lost to Nur for the post of VP; BCL DU unit president Sanjit Chandra Das who did not contest the poll; BCL central general secretary and Ducsu GS Golam Rabbani; member Tilottama Sikder, and VP Nurul Huq Nur.
Nur further alleged that BCL activists in Ducsu did not consult him at all, rather informed him of their decision over phone, and he rejected their proposal.
He said BCL tried to establish a one-party show at Ducsu.
Regarding this, Ducsu GS Rabbani said they called an informal meeting to discuss the issue but Nur was absent.
Rabbani added that there is no rule stating senate representatives should be elected, and they included Nur in the list as a show of “compassion”.
According to DU Order 1973, article 20 (l), five representatives should be nominated by Ducsu, but there is no clear instruction on the selection process.
The DU senate consists of 105 members.
