BCL leader injured in 'Shibir attack'
A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader was critically injured in an attack carried out allegedly by Shibir men at Madan Mohan College in Sylhet city yesterday afternoon at around 1pm.
The injured, Rockey Deb, is former general secretary of ward-13 unit of BCL in Sylhet city and a student of the college.
Mahmudul Hasan Sunny, president of BCL's college unit, said, “A group of Shibir activists attempted to run their organisational activities on the campus that morning, but BCL tried to stop them. Hours after that, Shibir men attacked Rockey with sharp weapons and critically injured him.”
He was hacked with sharp weapons, resulting in serious injuries to both hands and head. He was undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said Selim Miah, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
After the attack, BCL leaders and activists gathered on college campus and brought out a procession in protest.
Zedan Al Musa, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said, “Additional police forces have been deployed on the college campus to avoid any further disturbances and police are looking for the attackers.”
