BAU suspends 4 over stalking
Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU) authorities yesterday suspended four students after an allegation of stalking was brought against them.
The suspended students are, Nasir Uddin of agriculture engineering and technology faculty; Safayetul Islam of agriculture faculty, and Mobasher Hossain and Shamim Reza of veterinary science faculty. All of them are final-year honours students.
Another student was also served a show-cause notice asking him to reply within five days, but the name was not disclosed.
According to campus sources, the four started following a second-year female student on the campus around 7pm on Monday. Concerned, the student called another senior student nameed Hasibul Hasan for help.
Hasibul rushed to the spot and sent the girl to her dormitory, but the stalkers later engaged in fisticuffs with him. Injured, Hasibul was taken to BAU Healthcare Centre.
Contacted, Prof Dr Md Solaiman Ali Fakir, students affairs adviser, said they have heard about the stalking and “a clash between two groups of students”.
“We are investigating into the allegation and the university authorities have formed a five-member probe committee headed by Prof Dr AKM Zakir Hossain of agriculture faculty today [yesterday] to investigate into the incident,” said Prof Dr Md Azharul Hoque, proctor of the university.
The committee was asked to submit its report within five working days.
