Bangladeshi teens jailed in India return
Three Bangladeshi teenagers, who were jailed in India for a year, have returned to the country through Benapole check-post on Thursday.
India’s Border Security Force (BSF) handed them over to Benapole’s Border Guard Bangladesh officials at 9pm.
The returnees are Halima Khatun,12, daughter of Jashim Uddin; Nupur Doly, 14, daughter of Deb Proshad; and Tahidul Sikder, 12, son of Nizam Sikder.
Mohsin Khan, officer-in-charge of Benapole check-post immigration police, said over a year ago, a BSF team had arrested them from Kolkata for going there illegally.
A gang of human traffickers took them to India through Jashore border, promising them lucrative jobs, he said.
They were sent to a Kolkata court which jailed them for one year. Later, they were kept at a shelter home there.
The Indian authorities let them return after repeated requests by Bangladesh home ministry.
A special Indian police team on Thursday took them to BSF, which later handed them over, he added.
