Bangladesh to receive $10m climate fund
Bangladesh will receive $10 million from the Adaptation Fund Board for the climate change-affected population of coastal areas and river islands.
At a meeting in Bonn, Germany last week, the Adaptation Fund Board approved new project proposals totaling about $32.5 million, of which Bangladesh will get $10 million.
"Despite a very full agenda, it was great to see the progress in new projects funded to benefit vulnerable communities across a variety of adaptation sectors such as forestry (Armenia), water management (Dominican Republic), coastal zone management (Bangladesh), and disaster risk reduction (first regional project in Eastern Europe)," said Adaptation Fund Manager Mikko Ollikainen.
Since 2010 the Adaptation Fund has committed $532 million to 80 concrete adaptation projects in the most vulnerable communities of developing countries, serving 5.8 million direct beneficiaries.
