Bangladesh now a development wonder
Bangladesh is now a wonder in all development indicators, and the country will be emerged as Bangabandhu's "Sonar Bangla" through achieving economic freedom, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said yesterday in Geneva, Switzerland.
She was addressing a reception programme arranged by the Geneva unit of Awami League in Switzerland, said a press release.
“Development of Bangladesh in all socio-economic indicators is now visible. Countrymen are enjoying benefits from the positive changes under social safety net [programmes],” she said.
Bangladesh has been advancing under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, she said.
The country has become eligible to graduate to a developing country, and will turn into a developing country by 2024 and prosperous and developed one by 2041, she said.
The parliament has turned into an effective one thanks to positive and constructive criticism by the opposition party, she added.
The Speaker also said world leaders have kept faith in Bangladesh's democracy. As a result, the country could assume pole positions in two top democratic organisations -- the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Earlier, the Speaker paid a courtesy call on IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong in Geneva, said the release.
They discussed possibilities of reducing maternal mortality, child mortality and child marriage through IPU forum, it said.
