Bangladesh envoy visits ailing freedom fighters in New Delhi
The newly-appointed High Commissioner to India Md Imran visited a group of freedom fighters from Bangladesh who are undergoing treatment at Indian Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in New Delhi.
The high commissioner met the freedom fighters, who are mostly in their 60s and 70s, on Saturday and enquired about their ailments and the treatment they are receiving.
The freedom fighters expressed satisfaction regarding the treatment and care they have been receiving at the hospital, the Bangladesh High Commission said in a release.
Imran also met Army Hospital (Research and Referral) Commandant Lt Gen Rajat Dutta who assured of the best possible care for the freedom fighters.
Dutta appreciated the achievements of Bangladesh in primary healthcare and growth of its pharmaceutical sector.
The envoy was accompanied by Zakir Ahmed, first secretary of the High Commission.
The freedom fighters arrived in India last week from Dhaka. Fifteen of them got admitted to the hospital and another 14 are being treated at Pune’s Command Hospital.
The Indian government is extending treatment facilities to the war veterans under a five-year scheme announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the visit of his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina to India in April, 2017.
The scheme will provide treatment to 100 freedom fighters every year.
