Bail petition of Tufan Sarker rejected
The High Court (HC) yesterday rejected a bail petition filed by Tufan Sarker, expelled convener of Bogura town Sramik League, in a case filed over abducting and raping a student and torturing her mother in July, 2017.
The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman passed the order.
The bench also asked the lower court concerned to finish the proceedings of the case within six months.
Talking to The Daily Star, Advocate Cumar Debul Dey, a lawyer for Tufan, said his client will not move any petition before the Supreme Court against the HC order.
He will wait for the trial court's decision, said the lawyer.
According to the case statement, Tufan abducted the victim and raped her on July 17, 2017 and several times later.
Few of his associates had also helped him in the act.
A few days later, Tufan's party cadres picked up the victim and her mother, and tortured them, , added the case statement.
The victim's mother filed a rape and torture case against 10 persons including Tufan, his wife Asha Sarkar, and Asha's elder sister Marzia Akter.
Earlier, on January 22 this year, a Bogura court rejected a bail petition by Tufan in connection with the case.
